The Blue Nowhere

I just viewed a harrassment charge that turned into a threat via the cell phone. Someone has hacked into this young women's cell phone making threats and it won't stop even when they have it turned off! That was scary because it is real and not a fictional novel.
I am not computer savvy so this is a new domain for me. The vocabulary is amazing. Teachers are always wanting to expand their children's vocabulary. Now I have expanded mine!

School of the Future

This article was published in 1998. Threr are now many schools of the future. I'm glad our children are technologically advance for that will be the future. However, I hope that schools remain an institution where children come face-face with their peers , teachers and other adults. Socialization plays a big part in a child's learning. So does hands-on learning. Young children, especially, think in the concrete so they need activities to create. Children, also need movement and play. Computers aren't built for that.

How Teachers View Technology

Computers enhance learning and from the article most teachers agree with that premise. I know that I like that computers can give me data on the children and keep records of information that is useful for correspondance with families, report cards and myself.
Most teachers look favorably on the computer for most things except there are not enough of them in the classrooms!

The Internet Safety Debate

I believe there must be software provided that blocks portions of the net. Teachers are responsible for what takes place in the classroom but there is only one of us and 20-25 students. Curiousity is a child's learning tool, therefore, they will try to find out what's out there beyond the specifics of what they are told to do.
I thought the online safety rules were a great guideline to have in a classroom as well as to share with parents.
